Topic Proposal

1.) Applying for Iowa state residency for tuition purposes at the University of Iowa was changed for the 2018-2019 school year to make it harder for incoming freshman to receive instate tuition. It is clear that the University of Iowa changed the requirements to discourage out of state students from applying for state residency, costing the school money. The new requirements are negative and harmful to the students overall college experience. New requirements are working 30 plus hours a week, limited to 6 semester hours, and so much more. These requirements are hard to obtain, working so much and not being able to take as much classes creates a focus on work and not school. In turn, not much time is left for extracurriculars leading a student to feel disconnected from the student body. 2.) The second speech is a persuasive speech where you are trying to convince the audience that their is a problem, and to propose a remedy to the issue. When writing the speech you need to keep in mind purpose and audience. To support your claim you can use statistics, interviews, and other forms of evidence. 5 to 8 minutes you will propose a topic, explain why its a problem, and then propose a new topic. In addition, you will write a one-page reflection on how you developed the proposal and the argument.
